IBM Test Pattern Detailed
Pattern :
The test consists of three rounds as of all of us know Written , Technical & HR interviews for job .
The written paper contains 55 Qns to be answered in 1hr.
It contains the Qns on verbal ability,Aptitude, reasoning, Attention details & technical.
The verbal ability includes the following Qns.
I got ___________ in traffic so got late (struck/struckup/hold/……).
Mr Benerjee the officer of …. was questioned ___________(for ,with,on,to) his connection regarding the murder.
The proteins present in ____ apple ,____banana,______Egg are very essential ………..
We have to fill the blanks with a, an or the ( ans: an,a,an)
A Qn was asked on the meaning of underlined word
Here the word is Therapeautic .
Miss X ( some name is given ) given a speech on _____ bank of ____ river kaveri regarding _____________ abilities of the women . like that the Qn goes here also they have given the options like
1 a, an ,the
2 the,the,a
3 a, the,a
4 the, the, the
ans:4
thre is an essay abt the ATM behavior & usage ,security mechanisms ,connectivity, technology used like that .
Qns are asked as follows.
1. how an ATM is connected to net.
2. what the operation not mensioned in the passage
a. with drawl b. deposit c. donations to charities d . amount transaction btnm accounts
3. which of the following is false.
some time s Atm are un reliable.
They are connected through modems.
……
……
3. which is not a possible error regarding ATM.
a. mechanical error b. s/w error .i/p error ……..( the answer depends on the passage & actual errors given)
4. why ATM s are kept in shops
a. because there is no chance of theft there
b. no space in banks.
c. there will be more no of people.
……..
Then csome Qns are on venn diagram models
Like
1 . In a party 10 take only tea 15 take tea & 8 take only coffee then what is the number of persons take either coffee or tea.(nos are not exact).
2. In a college there are students who can play either football or cricket or both.
500 play cricket 220 play both & 600 play football .what is the total strength of the college.
Like this there are one or two more Qns… they r also easy & simple
Then now real IBM pattern starts. It also will be easy but needs a little bit of practice other wise u should have high spontaneous analyzing capacity.
Some 3 Qns are given with instructions like : given three strings check which of them are same ans: A if all are same, B if 1&2 are same, C if 1&3 are same, D if 2&3 are same, E if all are different
Strings are given as
1. a. 66749384879456 b. 6674934879456 c. 6674934879456
2. a. XIVIIMIVIIIVIXIV b.XIIVMIIVXIVIIIV c.XIVIIMIVIIIVIXIV
3. a. 34523897346579 b.343647654869679 c.346548364874379
Three Qns are given in the following model:
1.If + is replaced by *,* is replaced by -,- is replaced by / ,/is replaced by% nad % is replaced by + then what is the value of the following expression.
25-3+32/5%2
Some options will be given u have to choose correct answer. (all the digits are not same)
Next two of the same model but they are giving 4 expressions like above we have to find which one is correct.
Like: a. 35-2+4/3%42=35
b. 25+4-5%6*7=28
…..
……..
Like this they r giving 2 Qns. This seems to be some what risk just increase the speed of calculations .
The remarkable Qn of IBM is on cubes, in this imagination plays major role.
Given a Qn like this: there r three cubes arranged side by side
Each cube is divided into 64 cubes then top most layer of second cube is removed & top two layers of third cube are removed.
& then total volume is painted
1. what is the number of cubes painted on 1 face , 2. two faces, 3. three faces , 4. four faces , 5. no face.
This qn needs more imagination or u have to know the answer well before for this particular qn.
Some Qn s are given on data sufficiency here also analysys plays major role.
There r some 4 or 5 Qns in this model
Like a can do a worked for 5 days & b worked for 7 days how many days they taek to complete the work ………..like that .
There r 3 more qns on relations ship btn numbers , on the solving of eqns.
Then we can have some Qns on technical
One Qn on c, one Qn on UNIX, one on RDBMS , on on processors like that total I had only 6 to 8 Qns
Qns are like this : what is the o/p of printf(“%d”,printf(ram)); ans:ram3
What is the command to kill or stop a process in unix ( kill, stop, terminate ……) . ans : kill (check it out)
Unix is what kind of OS ( multiuser & multitasking).
Like that some what easy Qns we can get.
In this written test I got 42 out of 54( one Qns is not printed well so they asked us to leave it) I saw it when they are pinning my resume to my applcn form & answer sheet.
I got selected for technical interview for job I was called up by Mr. Adithya for the first round of interview for job .
Technical interview for job .
The technical interview for job went on very cool such that we can say it as simple HR .
I got some Qns abt project & languages .
First I entered his cabin by saying excuse me sir .
He responded well invited me by shaking hand & offered the seat.
I said thank u & sat .
The interview for job started like this.
Adithya: have u attended the presentation in the morning?
My self: yes sir.
A: any more qns other than qns asked there?
M: If I got selected into IBM what kind of environment can I expect ( team /individual)
A: ya u can work on various technologies which we train u on . here u have work with the data base of Airtel on behalf of IBM. U can go for any of the technologies depending on the requirement & location preferences…………
M: is there any pre requisites for the job?
A: not needed but u can learn on ur own interest but not necessary.
Then he asked me abt my self.
I have my details as a flowing river which is well practiced followed by hobbies ,strenths & weakness, achievements.
A: what is ur greatest strength i.e c/c++/java/php/oracle like that(he said all the subjects )?
M: I have strong knowledge in C, I know oracle well , I am interested in java also.
He asked what is poly morphism? Afte that what is pointer ?
I answered without any late
A: tell me abt ur project.
I explained the project as I am selling a product to him( with all the benefits by highlighting all the advatages & purpose of project)
By giving the details in the following order:
Project name client name …. Purpose ( simple in one line) back end
After that detailed description of flow was given .
A: what is ur role in ur project?
M : analysis, coding & testing ( analysis,coding,testing mantioned in resume)
A: u have analysed ,designed,coded,& tested the project .
M : ya
A: what the others have done
Here I got a chance to present me as a good maneger & ithink this is one major point I made an impression on him
I answered that as a leader I shared the total wotk among all the members
Ae r 5 people
2 are allotted for only documentation
are allotted for only development I myself designed the data flow & screens & the data base ,how it should be.
Then database was to one guy to develop & one guy taken all the interfaces to develop I developed the server side scripting & I have tested all the coponents individually & integrated & tested again . In this way I participated in all the activities as a leader.
Here he got satisfied with the way I supporting my words.
So what ever u say , be sure that it is supported well .
Then he asked abt achievements.
I said that I have presented a paper .
Then he asked the details abt what did u do & what has been presented in the presentation.
Here also the same confidence was shown & given a brief explanation.
A: any more qns regarding IBM other than the subject / technology.
M: why ibm is considering the women & disabled cases while all others are looking for only talent for their profit .
He answered that qn for 3 minutes explaining abt the talent of woman then the risks of taking woman & how they are handling them & encouraging them.
I said it is very impressive & I like this culture
Then he asked me to wait for some time & hr will be conducted.
Among 27 people 7 were called for hr interview for job
HR
After 1 1/2 hr I was called up to hr as a 5th guy .
It went on very casually.
Just I entered the cabin . I said excuse me. He smiled at me & shook hand & offered the seat . he is very cool I felt very interest in talking with him. He is … some singh.
He started vth a qn how r u dinesh
Ans : fine thanku & asked how r u.
Singh : u r from kadapa ?
A: yes sir
S: there we can get some thing round like pebbles or some thing icant get that name can u bring it for me.
A: is it a bomb?( generally kadapa is welknown for hand made bombs)
S: no
A: mangoes?( we are having a plenty of mango gardens there)
S: no
A: any kind of sweet?
S: no it was a thing which available there only, kadapa is well known for it .
Actually I didn’t get what he want but I decided to show my skills again.
A: ok sir if want I will bring it for u.
S: sure?
A: definitely I will bring it ( stressing the first word as I am having them in my pocket).
S: ok tell me abt ur self
I told the same by hearted essay which contains all my educational details ,hobbies, strenths & weaknesses.
He stressed on weakness i.e. he just given an expression I understood that he wants more regarding that.
Then I have given a brief explanation with example regarding weakness & told how I managed to over come that.
S: what kind of work u r dreaming of ?
A: I should be given a chance to prove my innovation or I should work in an environment where my innovative thoughts can work on behalf of me.wher I can get a significance to my work which worth of a huge amount of money.(here I have given more importance to work satisfaction than money)
S: mr dinesh u r going to be placed for BPO where u have to operate over a s/w which is already developed where u can get very less chances of programming . is it ok for u?
A: yes sir . I want to just launch my self into the s/w company through a company like IBM. No problem I can work here.
S: tell me abt ur family
I told abt my family , as a part of that I mentioned my native place name.
He asked abt that whare it is?
& then
S: how far is it from Hyderabad ?
A: 400 kms( ans delivered instantly without any gap of even a milli second but it is actually 500-600km here the speed is required rather than the facts coz none of us measured the distance personally)
S: whare r u staying?
A : Hostel in SR nagar ( again vth the same speed).
S : can u relocate to B’lore or pune?
A: yes sir
S : sure?
A : definitely I will relocate.
S: if I give a chance to choose among banglore, pune,Chennai & Hyderabad which one u choose.
Here I have taken all the freedom to express my view with out any hesitation
I have given my preferences as per my convenience & also said that if it is neede I can work in any places with out any problem . its just my preference as u asked.
S: ok mr"YOU" thank u pls u can leave & wait out side .
I was unable to understand , for what he called me & with out asking any single tough qn ( I know ibm interviews for job are always tough) he Is sending me out what he is going to judge abt me .
& asked when can I expect the result?
S: just wait for 15 min we will tell u . U had ur lunch?
A: yes sir.
S: then pls go & relax .
I am unable to guess what is going to happen but I felt with confidently that if they choose 4 or 5 I should be one of them.

IBM PAPER ON 13th DECEMBER 2007
Hi friendzzz,
Hope you all are busy wid the ongoing placements. To start with, let me introduce myself . I am Neelesh Bhattacharya, an M.S student from IIT Kharagpur. IBM visited our campus on 13th Dec and we were all quite nervous, as usual.
To begin, they announced that the selection procedure will consist of three rounds, namely, written, GD and interview. Then the story began.
The Written Test comprised of FOUR sections :
(a) Data Matrix : Series of questions were based on a single data matrix. The elements of the matrix were symbols like *, @, ? and also numbers like 1, 6, 7...The questions were like "If all ? are changed into 1, which row summation has the highest value". They will just test your swiftness and response to the querry.
(b) Find the missing number : All u have 2 do is 2 fing out the pattern in the given sequence and find out the missing number, quite easy but u should b fast coz 18 or 19 ques were 2 b solved in 4 min.
(c) Aptitude : General Aptitude...Problems on trains, age, percentage...etc...The R.S Aggarwal book should be enough 4 this part.
(d) Essay Writing : You have 2 write some 100 words on the given topic...Our topic was "Cricket is overshadowing other games in India". Try to be as pin-pointed as possible.
123 were short-listed for the GD round and the students were divided in groups of 8-10 each.
It was a very very nervy situation as two of the IBM people entered the room 2 start the proceedings. We were made 2 sit in a round table manner. They announced that the for the 1st part of it, everyone will speak about the topic 4 a min (sequentially) and in the next part there will be an open forum for 4 mins and finally 1 min for anybody or everybody to conclude. The topic given was "Should India sign the Nuclear Treaty"...In the open forum section, try 2 take the initiative before anybody does it, this shows the leadership quality in you. But avoid making a Fish-Market situation. Same is the case for the concluding section.
63 were short-listed from here and again I was one of the lucky ones.
Fasten you seatbelts now, as we have come to the Interview Round.
I was interviewed by two persons, both young and quite friendly. "Introduce yourself", "Why IBM".. were some of the common questions. Coming to the Technical part, I was asked to describe the area of my Research in details and also it's application in a practical scenario. It was followed by series of questions on Software Engineering, like SW life cycle phases, testing methods, ISO/SI CMM...etc. Finally a few puzzles on probability and general intelligence. It was quite okay and I was confident abt the selection.
At 12 in the night the results came out & 32 were selected & I was one of them. Hopefully this info will help u in ur placements.
All the Best
IBM PAPER ON 27th JULY AT ALLAHABAD
hi friends, i am extremely happy to contribute some of my experiences with you. ibm visited our campus on 27th july, you have to be very attentive from the begining right from the presentation of the company, you should listen and understand all the things that are being told by the company deligate.understand all things about the comapany like in what areas the comapny is working on and all the details that are displayed there.
after this presentation a wriiten test was conducted, the written test looks very tough but the only thing you have to keep in mind that you have to perform upto your potential,do not get disheartend if you are not able to attempt less question in any section.
WRITTEN TEST
1. Data Matrices-
• 3 data matrices
• 5 questions from each
• Total 15 questions
• Time: 13 minutes
• No negative marking
Mark all as there is no negative marking for this section, firstlly draw a corresponding matric and go through the questions you will find them easy now.
2. Number Series-
• 20 questions
• Time: 4 minutes
• Negative marking: 1/4 each
Try to attempt at least 10 correctly. Be careful as there is negative marking. Don't make blind guess. It is very easy section. Very simple series will be there,do not go through fast, and do not panic you will find the pattern of series easily.
3. Quantitative Ability/Analytical Section-
• 12 questions
• Time:15 minutes
• Negative marking: 1/4 each
• Tricky questions from Profit & Loss, Time and Distance, Time and Work, Ratio and Proportion, Simple and Compound Interests etc.
Try to attempt at least 5 correctly. Be careful as there is negative marking. Don't make blind guess. One thing that you should remember is TIME MANAGEMENT. We were told to write an essay on "Importance of communication in IT industry" within 15 minutes.
GROUP DISCUSSION
Our topic was "SHOULD INDAIN BRAINS GO OUTSIDE OR NOT.....THE BRAIN DRAIN PROBLEM". There were 10 persons in a group and duration was around 15 minutes. First 10 minutes were for open discussion and then everybody was given 30 seconds to summarize. Express your views only. It is not necessary that you have to take one side; speak your points confidentailly,do not look towards the examner try to convince others on your points,if it does not happen,do not get panic as they only want from you to spaek confidently,so be confident.
AFTER THE GROUP DISCUSSION PERSONAL INTERVIEW WAS THERE.........quesion asked in order from me..

6.asked about my family...
7.then again go through the resume..asked about my area of interest....i replied...dbms,data structurs....he asked any one else i said ya sir many more....
8.ok dear i do not know anything about DBMS tell me waht is dbms.....it was like a gift question to me i explained it right from begining starting from its features, how to farme how to manipulte the database, how to access the database, what sharing means in dbms.about querying from the databse.....i explained it for about ten minutes..he was quiet impressed said GOOD
9.asked about querying from database..how it can be done....i replied sir it can be done using sql query...
10.what are differenet type of data structures...easy one...
11.what does data mean...wher data resides in a system..easy one
12.again go through the resume...the question i was expecting my percentage....you have 75 in 10th than a downfall of 8% in 12th,than again a downfall of 6% in B.Sc,can i know the reason.... i replied sir i have not a keen interest in organic chemistry,i have got good marks in math and physics but i only oftenly read organic chemistry....ok tell the formula of benzene..ireplied..than asked formula of methyl alcohol and then formula of ethyl alcohol....i replid than he asked the difference between then....i said i dont know sir....said i think you still do not go through organic chemistry...

IBM PAPER ON 25th JULY AT BANGALORE
hi friedz.. its joy..just day before yesterday IBM GBS came to our college....friendz let me tell u one thing cracking IBM is very easy..very very easy.beleive me..I am a MCA student..in our college they conducted only 2 rounds.we were very lucky 4 dat.
first apti was started at around 10am.out of 86 only 18 could clear dat.apti was damn easy.but the thing is time managament.teme mngt. killed others.u have to be en efficient in time mangnt..from this year they have changed thepattern..they dont get from any consultancy.they prepare it by their own..
anyhow it had 3 sections.
in sec 1 there was matrix kind of problem.like xchange p by 3 or v by m sumthing like dat.and ans the question. again i am telling apti is easy.but u have to b faster like sakuntala devi..and 4 everey sections u will b given some time. there was no negative marks.this section was quite tricky..
next sec comes series completion..total 20 ques. time only 4 min.-ve marking is there..
next comes arithmetic reasoning..it was quite easy but in twisted manner..-ve marking was there. total no of ques was 20.and time was 15..
at last easy was also there.our topic was "eng should not accept job outside country"..
out of 86 only they selectd 18 members..thanks to god i was there one of them..
after 2 hours i was called for tech/hr interview..they asked me few ques. from my project, S.E., c, c++, dbms.. my interview was quite ok ok.
they asked me about ..s/w process model, iteration model, cokies, class, functioin overriding ect ect..
after 2 hour they announced the result. thanks to god my name was there.hav become IBMer...from 18 only 11 got placed, where 4 were from MCA..so friends dont get scare. just think u can do it..belive on u believe on god. it was my 4th attemp.
ok friendz best of luck to all of u...meet u in IBM..

in sec 1 there was matrix kind of problem.like xchange p by 3 or v by m sumthing like dat.and ans the question. again i am telling apti is easy.but u have to b faster like sakuntala devi..and 4 everey sections u will b given some time. there was no negative marks.this section was quite tricky..
next sec comes series completion..total 20 ques. time only 4 min.-ve marking is there..
next comes arithmetic reasoning..it was quite easy but in twisted manner..-ve marking was there. total no of ques was 20.and time was 15..
at last easy was also there.our topic was "eng should not accept job outside country"..
out of 86 only they selectd 18 members..thanks to god i was there one of them..
after 2 hours i was called for tech/hr interview..they asked me few ques. from my project, S.E., c, c++, dbms.. my interview was quite ok ok.
they asked me about ..s/w process model, iteration model, cokies, class, functioin overriding ect ect..
after 2 hour they announced the result. thanks to god my name was there.hav become IBMer...from 18 only 11 got placed, where 4 were from MCA..so friends dont get scare. just think u can do it..belive on u believe on god. it was my 4th attemp.
ok friendz best of luck to all of u...meet u in IBM..

IBM PAPER ON 26th JUNE AT PUNE
Hi all…
IBM… International Business Machines also known as Big Blue conducted campus at MIT on 26th June, 2007. Students were from PVG, SKNCOE, SCOE and MIT.
Criterion was aggregate 60% (For 5 semesters). Nearly 95 students got short listed from the aptitude test. Further 72 cleared the Group Discussion and finally 59 got through. I was one of them.
1. Aptitude Test: It was very interesting.
It had 3 sections:
• Matrix Manipulation: Three 5*5 matrices were given and there were 5 Qs on each matrix such as interchanging rows and columns, replacing one symbol by other, etc. (15 Qs in 13 min) there was no –ve marking for this section, so, I attempted all Qs.
• Series completion: 20 Qs to be solved in 4 min. It had -1/4 marking. So, I attempted only 18.
• Quantitative: 12 Qs in 17 min. It had -1/4 marking. I attempted only 7 Qs.
This section was a bit tough.
2. Group discussion:
Topic for our group was ‘Should Politicians be Honest?’
We were a group of 16 students.
It was an extempore. Each one had to stand up and present his/her views.
3. Interview (At around 10 pm)
Interviewer: Ajay
(Last Interview of the day!!)
Ajay: Finally…
Gauri: Yeh…Good Evening, Sir.
Ajay: So, what do you feel about being the last one to be interviewed?
Gauri: I got to know the questions that you asked to all my friends…
Ajay: Oh, really?? What did they tell you??
Gauri: They told me that you asked
1. Tell me something about yourself?
2. Why IBM?
Ajay: That’s it??
Gauri: Yeh.
Ajay: (smiling) These are just to start the interview..!! (I just smiled.)
Ajay: Tell me some things which you don’t like about your college…
Gauri: Sir, our college conducts re-tests if we have not cleared the regular unit test, and they send the reports back home.
Ajay: They really do that??
Gauri: Ya, they do.
Ajay: Have you ever given the re-test?
Gauri: Yes sir, 2-3 times. Because we were busy in Firodiya Karandak practice…
Ajay: (Interrupting me…) Have you done Firodiya??
Gauri: Yes sir.
Ajay: As what?
Gauri: As a Singer. I sung a Telugu song in S.E. and a Portuguese Song in T.E.
Ajay: Do you know something?? I am a musician… I have all instruments at my home. I have a reserved floor for music in my bunglow. IBM has it’s own band and we perform all over the world. I am the president of IBM club.
(He was going through my resume.)
Ajay: So, should I grill you on c++ or java??
Gauri: Yes Sir, you can.
Ajay: (smiled) Should I??
Gauri: You can, sir.
Ajay: Anyways, you are watching me since morning, what do you think about me??
Gauri: (Thought for a while) Sir, you are pretty honest and can go naughty at times.. and I think you don’t really prefer job hopping. Do you play guitar??
Ajay: I play all instruments…
Ajay: Do you know, IBM takes special care of it’s women employees?? IBM has won the Best Employer award for 10-15 years…
(I just nodded.)
Ajay: Ok…tell me something about yourself…
Gauri: I am from Bombay ..
(He immediately stopped me)
Ajay: Bombay or Mumbai??
Gauri: Mumbai…Are you from Mumbai?
Ajay: No, But its like my second home. Why did you think that I am from Mumbai??
Gauri: A person who is so particular about saying Mumbai and not Bombay must be closely related with the city…
(He just smiled)
Ajay: Continue…
Gauri: I love computers. I never get bored of them. It can be gaming or surfing..
Ajay: (Interrupting me…) So, which was the last site you surfed?
Gauri: It was IBM.
Ajay: What did you like about it?
Gauri: Sir, I loved the latest logo in which ‘I’ is shown by vertically drawn eye and ‘B’ is represented by a honeybee.
Ajay: It is not really a logo…
Gauri: Ya, not exactly… but that particular picture…
Ajay: Ok. What is IBM’s slogan?
Gauri: What makes you special!!!
(He nodded in appreciation.)
Gauri: Sir, actually I didn’t know this but my mother messaged me after I told her that I have cleared the G.D and have to go for the interview.
(He smiled.)
Ajay: So, do you want to ask anything?
Gauri: Sir, when did you join IBM?
Ajay: I am with IBM since last 4 years. Before that I was working with a Japanese company.
Gauri: Sir, and what about the training?
Ajay: Training will be for 3-6 months depending upon the project requirements.
Anything else you want to ask?
Gauri: No sir.
Ajay: Sure?
Gauri: Yes sir.
Ajay: (Smiling) Ok…So, now you will tell your mother immediately about the interview??
Gauri: (Smiling) Yes sir.
Ajay: Do you think I will select you?
Gauri: Yes sir.
Ajay: Are you sure?
Gauri: 100% sir.
Ajay: confident?
Gauri: Absolutely Sir…
Ajay: (Smiling) Anyways, it was nice interacting with you..
Gauri: Thank you, sir.
Ajay: Wait for the results now…
Gauri: Yes sir. Bye.
Ajay: Bye.
Finally, around 10: 50 pm results were declared and Expression Of Responsibility was given to us!!!!
I wish you all the very best… c u in IBM…

IBM PAPER ON 2nd JUNE
Hai friends I am SATISH BODDU
I have been selected for IBM IN CAMPUS PLACEMENT conducted at BITS, Warangal ,A.P ON 2nd JUNE 2007. A total of 1406 students appeared 4 written test and around 220 were selected in written.
We were asked to write the ESSAY along with written test .Written test was started around 10.30 AM and ended around 12 noon which comprised of ESSAY also. Results were anounced around 3.00 PM.
GDs for 220 students started around 3.30 PM and ended at 5 PM I think so. Results were anounced at 6 PM and 164 were selected in GD.
They held INTERVIEWS on next day .There were no results after tech interview many of the students were directly forwarded to HR and some of them were rejected and they told them this directly. All the interviews were completed at 4PM . They announced the final results and 79 students were selected atlast.
WITH GOD’S GRACE I WAS ONE OF THEM. Let me explain u each phase in detail
1.WRITTEN TEST
A. VERBAL ABILITY(10marks):
1,.2) ques on prepositions
3) nearest meaning of apathetic
a) ….. b) sympathetic c)indifferent d)inattentive
4) ……… did not agree him.(ans is with)
a)at b)to c)with d)by
5) _ clown of that circus became famous for his antics.(article)
6-10 a RC on pollengrains, reproduction in flowers thru bees ………something like that
This was the easiest RC I have ever seen in any company’s written test.
B.APTITUDE(25 marks):
It consisted of 25 questions believe there was not even a single question from objective arthmetic(ie, trains, boats&streams ,time &distance etc .Please don’t waste ur time in preparing 4 arthmetic)
Almost all the ques r 4m VERBAL REASONING only (RS AGGARWAL is more than enough)
1-5) out of 600 students 536 have credit cards (AMEX,MASTER ,VISA CARDS)……….(a bit hard try this section with inter 1st year maths(A.P))
Draw the venn diagram with 3 circls intersecting
1)How many had MASTER card
2) How many had only MASTER card
3)How many had VISA card
4) How many had only VISA card
5) How many had AMEX card
I think difference betn 1 & 2 answers is 41 and 3 &4 is 21( have a wise guess its easy then)
Three ques on DIRECTION SENSE (easy)6 . A person starts behind is house which faces to east and walks 50m an turns left walks 100m ……… in wht direction he is from his house.
7. If NORTH is SOUTH-WEST then SOUTH-EAST is (ans is NORTH)
8. I dint remember5 ques on DATA SUFFIENCY(think well then it is easy)
5 QUES on if $ is 1 and * is 0 (just binary representations) then
444 is represented as
125 is represented as
So on Remaining questions were on BLOOD RELATIONS ,PROBLEMS ON AGES etc
C. ATTENTION TO DETAIL(10 marks):
3 Questions were asked on below pattern
1. Find any dissimilarity. a)234222272451 b) 23422272451 c)234222272451 d) 2342272451
2. Strings are given as a. 66749384879456 b. 6674934879456 c. 6674934879456
3. a)CCBDABBC b)CCBDABBC c)…….. d)………
3 Questions on if + stands for * ,/ stands for - ,* stands for / and / stands for + then Find the value of given expressionsRemaining 4 questions are on a case study A person is eligible for a job if passed his degree in Science with aggregate over 60% and willing to pay a bond of RS 2 lakhs for 2 years ………..
If the person fails to satisfy any of mentioned criteria then he has to report Manager or Administrative officer …………………
D . TECHNICAL(10 marks)
3 questions are from C (easy) 3 questions from DBMS (very tough) 3 questions are from unix(easy 4 comp students) I didn’t remember the missing question sorry(I think its 4m OS)
That’s it 4 written test RS AGGARWAL(VERBAL REASONING) and any elementary English Book 4 grammar all the above 2 days before exam is more than enough to crack IBM WRITTEN That is what I had and what I did.
2.ESSAY
Topic was "EXERCISE IS GOOD FOR HEALTH" We were given 15 mins just after written and asked to write in not more than 200 words
3.GD
After we entered the room all the rules were changed it was not a GD but just like JAM. We were 10 in group and each of us was given 2mins to speak on the topic along with our introduction. Panel members were free with us they havent stopped any of us though we ran out of time .
They want u speak .Thats it. Our topic was "ENGINEERS SHUDNT ACCEPT JOBS FROM OTHER COUNTRIES" 8out of 10 were selected in GD from my group.
4.TECH INTERVIEW:
U cant distinguish tech and HR in IBM both go on same lines
For me there was a lady ,i think she was frm kerala or karnataka, she doesn,t know telugu .
First of all i stood at the door waiting for call frm her, then i entered the room ,it was comp. lab .
MAM : tell me abt ur self …………..
Then she asked me about my projects ,i explained each n every thing
Here only I scored much more marks
Then she asked me abt team management, how can i manage my team members in different situations,i was aware of this sort of questions , so prepared earliar and answered PERFECTLY.
Then she asked me some 7 questions frm my core subject(am frm MECHANICAL BRANCH).I answered correctly 6 questions .
TURBINE TYPES,HEAT TRANSFER,FLUID DYNAMICS,STRN OF MAT., etc........
Then she asked me about 1)Arrays ,2)Pointers 3)Structures
I ANSWERED CORRECTLY for 2 only...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
she laughed at my answeres , i too gave smile***
she then asked me to wait outside for HR, it took me 55min to clear this round .
She then came out of the cabin and sugested me to learn basics of computer languages, as am frm MECHANICAL.
************ HERE ONLY I SMELLED MY SUCCESS ************
HR
Here is final round for me ,i entered the room ,where hr was sitting ,he asked me to take the seat .
I slowly sat on the chair(Normal plastic chair ).It was comfortable to sit in it .as there was AC in the room.
Then he shook hands with me and askad my name and introduced himself by telling his name his position in IBM,
I was confused for a while that ,interview is 4 me or 4 him.Like that he was so cool that i feel at home with him,at that moment .
SO REMEMBER TO BE COOL WHILE TALKING ,no one is going to beat u there ,okay.........
Then he asked me abt myself ,my projects, my innovative ideas,as i bagged STATE 2ND PRIZE FOR MY PROJECT,
Then he asked abt IBM, team management ,why software job 4 a mechanical student ,my interested areas in IBM, why IBM
............IT TOOK 1 HOUR FOR ME TO GIVE PERFECT ANSWERS TO HIM.....YOU MUST BE SPONTANEOUS
TO ANY QUESTION!!!!!!!!!!!!! OKAY........REMEMBER.
Then he asked me , DO YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS REGARDING "IBM".
Firstly i hesitated to ask but he forced to ask........
So i asked like this
"WHY IBM IS INTERESTED IN TAKING GIRLS AND PHYSICALLY HANDICAPED "he then asked me to listen his words,he has given explanation to abt 30min. and then he asked me to wait out side to know the results .
I think abt 1 hr. latter results were announced and ........................................
" I WAS ONE AMONG THE SELECTED CANDIDATES"
IBM PAPER ON 10th MAY AT SURAT
hello everyone, this is the pattern of placement paper for ibm global which came to my campus on 10th May . 192 out of 390 were selected for GD round and 34 got eliminated after GD. In all 114 were finally selected which was a record for them as well as for my college.
written test consisted of three section first one was verbal reasoning which consisted of some articles n prepositions. A reading comprehension was also asked, this was tricky one and no question could be answered directly. there were 10 questions in all.
second section was aptitude related. Believe me it was the easiest test i ever gave. there were different sections. in all 35 questions were to be answered.5 were related to venn diagram prob, there was a section about binary nos.$ denoted 1 and @ denoted 0.all we had to do was turn each given relation to its binary equivalent and then replace each 1 by $ and each 0 by @.5 questions were about logical reasoning,20 questions were general questions like time, man power n probability questions, very simple u can do them at one go if u hav average iq.
The third section consisted of technical questions,3 were c lang related,3 on unix,2 on data structure n 2 on dbms specially sql.
GD was more of elimination rather than selection, make it a point to speak some good points and do speak fr some time . just speak and u r thru.
Personal interview
hr: wats ur name
me: sir abhinav
hr: hav a seat mr.abhinav
me: thank u sir
hr: so mr. abhinav u r frm electrical stream and u r having such a good cgpa then y u want to go to IT sector
me: sir before coming to this col i was not knowing wats good for me and where my interest lies.after coming here i tried my hands on programming n found tht i m quite good at it and it intersts me very much,i think u can only grow in tht field in which u hav interest.
hr: ok wat all subjects hav u read
me: sir i hv read fundamental of c prog,8085 microprocessor, digital circuits...(always mak it a point to tel only those subjects which involve logic or programming, try to skip core subjects lik power sys n control sys fr electrical...he will stop u after u tel him 3 , 4 subjects)
hr: so u know c lang..
me: yes sir
hr: okk ,so how much u rate urself in c
me: sir i m the best in this col regarding algorithm development, infact i m sure i can compete with any comp. science student regarding logic development(believe me u shld b confident enough to say tht, it was a risk n i took it but if u r not tht good in c just say tht u knw basics of c...or whatever u feel is appropriate)
hr: really,so can u tel me algorithm used by google search engine...
me:( was bit nervous) sir i dont knw exactly bt i can try..
hr: ya sure try try
me:blah blah blah
hr: so u knw wats binary search
me:(tht was very easy) blah blah blah
hr: tel me if i giv u a array of 1000 nos,all in ascending order in hw many iterations will binary search b completed?
me: sir 10 because 2 to pwr 10 is 1024 ...
hr: yes thts good ,i m impressed
me: thank u sir
hr: u told me u r very good in prog... can u supprt ur claim.
me: yes sir i hav won one c programming contest n was 11 in c online comp.. out of 200 odd teams.
hr: good so what all programs u did..
me: told him and then he asked me to explain one of the prog..was quite easy
hr: wats diff btwn do while n while
me: (told was easy)
hr: wats pointer
me: (easy)
hr: ok so do u want to ask us any question..
me: askd 1-2 questions,(if thy ask u this questions its quite sure u r thru...)
hr: u gav bangalore as ur preference can u tel y?
me: gave sm funda(never say thers more oppurtunity or smthng lik tht.
hr: thank u abhinav it was very nice meeting u
me: thank u sir ,it was mine pleasure.
see clearing ibm is very easy if u hav good pointer or if hav good marks in their written test, mine score was 43 out of 55 ,highest ws 48 (can b higher this is best to my knowledge) and i think cut off was 35(can b lower also). its easy fr girls ,if girls r in interview its vry rare they will b eliminated (they prefer girls). I don,t think they had sectional cut off, they will make u write essay but its hardly ever read bfr interview.
IBM PAPER ON 26th MAY
hi friends, I have given the IBM paper today(26/5/2007) at CRR College, elurr.
The procedure follows:
1. written test (with a essay)
2. JAM
3. TR
4. HR
Its very easy to crack the paper, but the only thing needed is good time mangment.
The paper consisted of 4 sections:
1. Aptitude(venn diagrams,some quant)
2. verbal(comprehensions,fill with appropriate words)
3. technical(just 15 out of 55, these are too from unix,dbms,C++)
4. and finally they asked us to write an essay on "Agriculture in INDIA"
And this was the major elimination round becoz out of 1,270 only 243 qualified written. And the results were announced 3hours later, and i got selected in the written, then they called us for group discussions, but they conducted JAM(just a minute) and the topic was "DO CRICKET OVERSHADES ALL OTHER GAMES"and this is very easy topic and some other pannels have given topics like"globalisation,films,outsourcing....etc"
and even in this out of 243 people only 181 could clear this round.
And on the next day they have conducted TR and HR.
Actually to say the IBM,s HR,s are very friendly, and they recieve us with cute smiles on their faces which will make us to present ourself confidently.
now my technical interview goes like this,
ME: good morning sir.
SIR: A very good morning, how,s the day.
ME: its pretty sir.
SIR: fine, tell me about ur self.
ME: sir, my name is aparna and ............................;
SIR:what,s ur favorite subject.
ME: sir it,s "digital communications" as i am from ece.
SIR: alright then give me a brief idea about digital communications. i told sir about communications since the early stages and gave him a brief idea, and he posed some questions from what i have told him.
SIR:how can u prove ur self to be more innovative?
i gave him some examples of my projects and my leader ship qualities.
SIR:which feild do u choose to work?
ME: I want to work in communications side.
SIR:if i give u the job of software engineer then..
ME: Sir, ............................
